How do you make yourself study?

I am struggling to read my text books, let alone complete assignments at the moment, and I am studying by correspondence so I really have to work out some ways of motivating myself. When I am at home it is just too easy to get up and start cleaning (haha I hate studying that much!), or surf the net for hours on end.... I was thinking of going to the library, but thats just like the internet for me, I would spend hours looking at books instead.

My thought today is to take my books to a cafe and try and get some reading doen there. Hopefully they wont have the papers out, or anyone interesting to talk to!

Does anyone have any tips or techniques they use?

These days I commandeer a desk at my company on the weekend, grab some cola and get to it. I don't like the library, can't snack. A cafe can work, depending on size. Used to order devonshire tea, and have at my books. Too quiet and I can't concentrate.

Sadly i get most of my studying down working the switch when I am in the back office at work. Its like I am so used to multi tasking that the idea of sitting down and doing one thing KILLS me! Sometimes I manage it by having my novel and my text books open and reading a page or so of each. But ibviuosly this is not the ideal way to take in information. I think its because I have started the same course over and over, the material is all so familiar too me, i dont feel like I am learning anything new, just churning through the assignments to get my peice of paper. Plus I am just really crap at finishing things!

Plain old panic used to do the trick for me. Start thinking about what the consequences will be if you don't (ie flunking).

When studying I have to be anywhere but home, way too many distractions. Usually I go to a quiet coffeehouse and get a coffee or pick up an energy drink or tea and go to a park or go sit by the beach. Going to the beach is a great way to multi task, because I can get my tan on as well.

I do most of my studying at work. I have to not sit at my desk and read though because then I need to check my facebook tentytrillion times. I've taken to putting some cushions on the floor by my sliding glass door that over looks the pool and I sit there and read. If I'm at home, I sit at the kitchen table and it has to be totally quiet. I'm way too easily distracted otherwise.

I just organised my husbands tax return for this year, instead of studying. His accountant is going to love me big time! Lol, I think next designated study day i will leave the house with only my text books and pens. At the very least I might write some poetry!

I could never get stuff done at home because I would get sidetracked. I always went to a bookstore or cafe to study/read. Getting a coffee got me into study mode! Going with a study buddy helps, too, as long as they aren't big talkers.
