Stuff your mom taught you about cooking

Ok, I don't know about everyone. But, I learned basic cooking from my mom, right? Like, don't eat raw meat or eggs, here's how to make pancakes, etc. Well, I'm watching this show called "5 ingredient fix" and she's... using raw eggs to make a cocktail and salad dressing. It's kind of freaking me out. Was the whole salmonella poisoning thing just something that she learned from HER mom and passed on to me? Have things changed? Is it no longer an issue? I just remember tasting the pancake batter and her flipping out on me about getting sick and I was like... "IMA THROW UP!!!!". To this day, raw eggs scare me. I also have non stick cookware and scramble my eggs in the pan instead of a separate bowl.

My mom was the best cook evar. She really could cook anything and it all tasted amazing. Too bad I don't remember much besides licking the beaters

My brother eats raw biscuit dough, by the biscuit. (Seriously, he'll pick them up off the pan and eat them). He hasn't died yet. So, while it may be something to be safe with (make sure your eggs are fresh, etc), I don't think you'll die.

My mom straight up doesn't cook. At all. I learned how to boil water and pour milk on cheerios. Lol. Oh, and take packaging off things before they go into the microwave/ oven. Consequences of a workaholic mother. We ate a lot of goddamn McDonalds. Woman was busy and tired and mostly I learned to love cereal. I don't blame her. I've taught myself to cook what I like...I watch my grandma, so now when I do cook, I cook like a German. It's not bad.

My mom had the Marge Simpson spice rack. Salt and pepper. Nothing fancy. When I left home I could follow directions on a package of rice-a-roni and thats about it. LOL, not much better now.....

When I left home all I mostly knew how to do was chop up everything in the house and put it in the dutch oven in the morning, and then eat it when you got hungry enough for it to taste good. My first attempt at "real" cooking was to go to the dollar/cheap food store and read the nutrition labels on the backs of cans. Everything that looked healthy I took home and put in a crock pot. It was gross. My friends called it my crack pot cooking. But I've come a long ways since then.

Bella, salmonella is somewhat rare. You could get it from raw eggs, but you're more likely not to, especially if you know the chickens.

I think it was Jack LaLanne who ate raw eggs. If not him another old school fitness celeb. I've tried raw egg. Decent in a shake. They don't have a strong flavor at all. You should only eggs the yolks raw though.

As far as cooking goes, it was my dad who taught me how to make pancakes, belgian waffles, french toast and stir-fry. My older sister taught me how to make little things like mini pizzas out of english muffins.

But mostly i learned to how cook and bake from recipes and then I'd explore on my own.
